Microsoft to Launch New Zune Later This Year

Microsoft Corp plans to launch a new version of its Zune portable media player later this year in the United States, incorporating high-definition video, touch screen technology and Wi-Fi connection.

Microsoft said the new Zune, its answer to Apple Inc's popular iPod digital music player, will also come with an Internet browser and a built-in HD radio receiver that offers higher-quality sound than traditional radio. It did not give a price or a specific date except to say it was due in the fall. The company added new features to Zune's music service last year, enabling users to download music wirelessly and buy songs they hear on the device's built-in FM radio.

Acer Aspire One D150 with Atom N280 hands-on

The 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 is not exactly new, but CeBIT was the first chance the SlashGear team has had to spend some hands-on time with the netbook. The model to hand was Intel Atom N280-based, but we were most keen on trying out the keyboard and seeing whether earlier rumors of lowered build quality were true.
To our hands, there felt like little difference between the keyboard on the D150 and the original 8.9-inch Aspire One. The mouse buttons, although moved to below the trackpad, are still clicky and not the nicest we’ve used, but then again Acer are still positioning the D150 as a budget machine, and we guess that’s one (frustrating) place to save money. What we obviously couldn’t test was battery life. So far the US reviews we’ve seen of the Aspire One D150 have looked at the N270 1.6Ghz Atom version of the netbook, rather than this 1.66GHz N280 model; both use the 945GSE chipset, but we’d like to see if the slightly more powerful CPU makes any difference, especially with Acer planning to switch to a lower-capacity standard battery

It’s looks adorable at least, with several color choices that should appeal to school kids, very young school kids. The Korea release does not include price. Specs are too ordinary: 2.4-inch screen, support for AVI and WMV and various audio files that includes OGG and Flac. The Atree J2 has Flash 3.0 support, a dictionary and 4GB and 8GB storage options. Dapreview rightfully thinks it’s too much like the iRiver E100.

What to look for in a Portable mp3 player ?

1. Capacity This should reflect what you are using the mp3 player for. If you want it forshort term gym use , go for a small widget with solid state memory . If you want make "music collection on the move " a reality , go for a hard drive based jukebox . 1gb=250 songs.
2. Size Portable is a very broad term. THe large hard drives are certainly pocketable but, when it comes to use for physical activities , they are trumped by the tiny , durable "sports " players.
3. Compatibility Make sure your computer has firewire or USB 2.0, otherwise you could be in for a long wait when transferring files(syncing).
4. Battery life Hard Drive jukeboxes will last around 10-15 hours, solid state mp3 player last longer .
